Final cut of Whispers

Below is the final cut of our opening sequence of Whispers. I will be evaluating the opening sequence via 7 different questions.

Marketing Whispers

To draw in an audience the marketing has to be targeted at the audience we want to attract; ours being teenagers. Although our film is an independent film our audience is a mainstream audience almost the same as the target audience for the Paranormal Activity series.
Here is a poster I have designed for Whispers. I have created a slogan for our marketing campaign which is I Dare You. This is effective because it is engaging the audience, drawing them in.

I have deliberately left a lot of details about the film to draw our audience in and make them look it up on the web or ask their friends about it to spread the word around.

This is very similar to the Paranormal activity poster; little information about the film to make the audience guess about the film, creating attention and hype which is a good way to gain audiences.

Obviously our distribution company would be in charge of the distribution process.

Marketing Research

As I have stated previously other production company's with similar genres of film have had extremely intelligent and well thought out marketing plans which have made massive audience hype and great critical and commercial success.

Paranormal activity started off as a low budget film that screened at the 2008 slamdance film festival which caught the eye of Steven Spielberg. The marketing strategy then created a website that fans of the movie had to hit a demand button in order for the film to be distributed to their local cinema. This meant that consumers of the product had total control on whether the film was distributed to their local area.

This online buzz and viral campaigning captivated a massive audience for the film and the profits were extreemly impressive.

The Blair Witch project is a similar genre to our film and also had an exreemly effective marketing strategy. They created a fake documentary that made it appear like the footage from the film was actually real obviously creating massive audience hype.

These films were all created by independent film producers and all had massive commercial sucsess. This is the aim of our film, we are not targeting our film at a niche audience, rather a mainstream audience. We will send our film off to film festivals as paranormal did to try and get noticed so we can target our film to a larger audience

Creating my companies logo

I started off by finding basic bear pictures because as our company is called sunbear productions obviously we need a picture of a sun bear to represent the company.
This is the picture I choose to edit.

I choose this picture because it simple and reflects an independent style. After editing the picture this is the logo I have produced.

I have added a tint to the picture to add more colour and style. The Sunbear Productions logo is two colours because it showed up better that way. Overall I think I have created a very professional logo that has an independent flair

Industrial Logo research

To create a good logo to represent our film production company, research on other independent film logos needs to be done.

These are some independent film company logos. They all have a simple design which is effect. They have limited colour use. All of these independent logos have a black background with white writing. These pictures will really help me design my own logo.

Attracting an audience

As an independent film production company we need to attract our audience cheaply but effectively. We are going to do this by using viral campaigns especially focused on social networking sites such as facebook and twitter to attract a large target audience without spending a lot of money. We will also use cheap posters to promote our film to general members of the public that don't use social networking as much as other people do.

Facebook and twitter are brilliant for social advertising but there are also a couple of disadvantages to them. The main bad point about using social networking is if one person doesn't like the film and they use social networking to express how they feel then, those people that are connected with them through social networking, which can be from neighbours to the other side of the world, can read them and be put off watching the film. This can be very damaging to a market campaign and can "break" a film.

Trailers on the TV are highly expensive and an independent production company might not be able to produce the funds to advertise the film on TV.

As an independent film production company we are more likely to use under the belt advertisement rather than over the belt advertisement. Under the belt advertisement is free advertising like word of mouth of interviews that promote the film, where as over the belt advertisement is advertisement that costs money to promote the film, like game releases or public displays of the film.

An example of this is the batman logo appearing on a building to promote the film before it was released. This builds hype.
